Who we are
Bait Beacon is operated by Camp Originals ("Camp Originals", "we", "us"). Camp Originals is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy — meaning we determine how and why your data is processed.
What we collect
- Account: your email address, display name, and login credentials.
- Catch log & spots: anything you enter — species, dates, coordinates, notes, and the ocean-conditions snapshot we attach.
- Alert areas: the coordinates, radius, and thresholds you set for Pro alerts.
- Support: messages you send us through the contact form or by email.
- Usage & device data: basic request logs, error reports, IP address, and device/browser identifiers used to keep the app running and secure.
Why we process it (legal bases)
- Contract performance: creating and operating your account, storing your catch log and spots, and delivering the alerts and Pro features you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests: keeping the service secure, preventing fraud and abuse, and improving the product using aggregated or minimal usage data.
- Consent: where we rely on it (for example, any optional marketing email) you can withdraw it at any time.
- Legal obligations: where we must retain or disclose records to comply with the law.
Your fishing locations stay private
Catches and saved spots are private to your account by default and protected by row-level security. A catch only becomes visible to other members if you are a verified angler and the catch has been reviewed and marked verified — and even then, exact coordinates are shown only to Beacon Pro members. We never sell location data.
Payments
Beacon Pro is billed through Paddle.com, our reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle collects and processes your payment details under its own privacy policy; we never see or store your card number. We store only your subscription status, plan, and renewal date.
Who we share data with
- Service providers/subprocessors: hosting, database, analytics, and email-delivery providers that process data on our behalf to operate the app.
- Merchant of Record (Paddle): for the sale of subscriptions, payment processing, tax compliance, and invoicing.
- Professional advisers: legal and accounting advisers where necessary.
- Authorities: where disclosure is required by law.
We also query public environmental data sources (Open-Meteo, NOAA, GEBCO, OCEARCH, PacIOOS) that receive only coordinates — never your identity.
We send transactional email only: account messages, contact-form replies, and the alerts you configure. Each alert email links to your alert settings so you can turn it off. We don't send marketing email without your consent.
Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it. Backups may retain deleted data for a limited period before being overwritten.
Security
We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level security on your private data.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, restrict, or delete your personal data, to object to processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a supervisory authority. You can delete individual catches, spots, and alert areas at any time from the app. To exercise any other right — including deleting your account and all associated data — message us through the contact form and we will respond within one month.
Cookies
We use essential cookies and browser storage only — for sign-in sessions and core functionality. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
